Ask Dr. Orloff

How do I overcome a block in my life?

Question: Dear Dr. Orloff

Thank you so much for all you have done to share your knowledge. I have read three of your books (Second Sight, and Positive Energy, and Emotional Freedom) and found them to be excellent, inspiring, clearly written, and convincing. I have been trying to write a dissertation for the past year and half (after years and years of classes, exams, and acquisition of familiarity with many ancient and foreign languages). Why is it that, despite all I do to keep my positive energy up, any work on my dissertation leaves me depressed and in tears. What can I do, besides meditate on this daily that will help me overcome what seems to be an obvious intellectual and writer's block? I am in despair and at the point of throwing it all away. Should I do this?

Answer: Dear Susana:

Whenever you encounter a block in your life you need to take a few steps back and tune into your intuition to get clarity about where you're stuck. It sounds like you are trying too hard rather than letting a flow come. You can't force creativity. It is a grace that enters when you can relax enough to let it in. In quiet moments, inwardly ask your intuition to reveal your block. Then stay open to any images, impressions, knowings or ah-has! that come through. Do this every day for a week. Also you can ask your dreams. My intuition for you is not to give up, but get some distance until you can approach this powerful piece of writing from a calm, centered place.
All the best,
